The term Shiatsu is literally translated as finger pressure and may be described as 'acupuncture without needles'; a 5000 year old traditional Japanese healing art grounded in a practical understanding of living magnetic energy channels, called meridians.

Like Zen Shiatsu, Metta Shiatsu form involves gentle stimulating stretches and pressure application. Palms, thumbs, fingers, and knees work along energy channels (meridians) and acupressure points throughout the body, improving health. The practitioner works with the areas of greatest need to help restore balance in a persons energy, encouraging vitality to replace dis-ease.

Metta is a traditional Buddhist term meaning loving-kindness. Loving-kindness is the compassionate wish for the wellbeing of every person. This loving-kindness attitude transforms the quality of our healing touch.

The practitioner is able to soften, listen to the needs of the receiver with greater perception and freedom from judgment, and work in a deeply effective manner. The client is able to relax and let go, allowing their body to heal itself in exactly the way it most requires.

Through the balance of this mutually beneficial giving and receiving relationship, interaction between client and practitioner is supportive
yet non-intrusive.

A human being is part of the whole called by us the Universe,
a part limited in time and space.
We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings ,
as something separate from the rest
- a kind of optical delusion of consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us,
restricting us to our personal desires
and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison
by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures
and the whole of nature in its beauty.
Albert Einstein
